How is the Mediterranean diet beneficial?

The Mediterranean diet focuses on fresh, unprocessed foods, high-fiber, plant-based options, lean meats, and good fats. Despite being relatively high in fat, it primarily consists of "good" fats. For instance, olive oil, a significant fat source in this diet, is abundant in monounsaturated fats, which is beneficial for the heart.

What is IMD?

IMD is the Indian-Mediterranean Diet, it has been designed to incorporate beneficial effects of the Mediterranean Diet, adapted to Indian cuisine. IMD has been developed following a scientific methodology by our team of medical and nutrition experts. IMD comprises of culturally acceptable diet plan with Indian food ingredients and recipes which has anti-inflammatory properties. 

Is IMD an exotic and expensive diet?

Not at all, IMD is made on the principles of the Mediterranean diet keeping in view the availability of food items in India. Common, locally and seasonally available foods are used for its preparation.

The Mediterranean diet will be suitable for the Indian plate?

Definitely, IMD has been designed in a way that it is an appropriate diet considering our traditional Indian food practices.

Is olive oil beneficial and are there any alternatives for Indian cuisine?

Extra virgin olive oil is widely regarded as a beneficial option because of high monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). It is best used without heating, such as drizzling a teaspoon over salads or using it as a base for salad dressings. In the context of Indian cooking, mustard oil, and groundnut oil are excellent alternatives, commonly used in various Indian dishes. IMD recommends incorporating fats from nuts and seeds while also ensuring a limited intake of visible fats. 

Can Mediterranean diet be modified to vegetarian eating habits?

Mediterranean diet focuses on the consumption of plenty of fruits and vegetables. We have developed IMD to suit predominantly vegetarian eating habits of the Indian population.

Is it true that to follow Mediterranean diet pattern one must buy special ingredients?

Not at all, IMD focuses on the use of fresh, locally and seasonally available foods to plan diets.

Are sweets and meats permissible within the guidelines of the Mediterranean diet?

The Mediterranean Diet encourages variety without strict limitations; however, the intake of red meats and sweets should be occasional. It is suggested that you should consult a qualified nutritionist for diet consultation.
