What is the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII)?
Inflammation is a normal biological process involved in the body's response to injury and infection. Persistent low-grade inflammation, however, has been associated with several chronic conditions, including cardiovascular disease.
The Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) is a widely accepted, validated dietary index that estimates the inflammatory potential of an individual's overall diet. It is calculated using dietary components that have been studied for their relationships with inflammatory markers.
When the DII is adjusted for energy intake, it is expressed as the Energy-Adjusted Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII).
